Löderup (can also be spelt Loederup) The small village of Löderup lends its name to one of Sweden’s most popular holiday areas, not surprising really as this approx. 15km by 10 km region boasts some of the country’s best beaches, some of the most popular tourist attractions and probably the best climate in the whole of the kingdom of Sweden! The area of Löderup lies in the eastern half of the municipality of Ystad (known amongst other things for its well-preserved medieval town centre, its bi-annual Military Tattoo and as the home of the well-known fictional figure, Inspector Wallander). The larger, traditional region of Österlen, of which the area of Löderup comprises the most southerly part, is often compared (at least by we who live here) to Provence in France (soft rolling countryside of exceptional beauty, with many small rustic farmhouses and good number of “chateaux” dotted around and of course a few vineyards – yes, vineyards!). Another comparison would be with Cornwall in England on account of the many artists’ studios, galleries and handcraft centres, the small fishing villages along the coast and the numerous holiday cottages where peoples from all over Northern Europe come to spend their vacations and weekends. Löderup is in the most south-eastern part of the province of Skåne on the Baltic Sea (Östersjön) - an hour and a half by car from Copenhagen and is nearer to Berlin than to Stockholm! |
